Pumpkin Carving Extravaganza – October 25, 2026

Join us for lots of pumpkin carving fun! This year we are back at Hurricane City Park on a Sunday afternoon! We’ll have 500 free pumpkins and carving tools and prizes will be awarded to the best pumpkin in each of 4 age categories. The fun doesn’t stop there, though. Join us even if you don’t want to carve a pumpkin because we’ll also have free hot chocolate and live entertainment — like an Inflatable Costume Race! Official race rules are listed below.

 

  1. Eligibility
  • Costumes must be fully inflatable, cover the entire body and be worn for the entire duration of the race.
  • Age categories for races will be: Under 10 years old, 11-16 years old, 17-40 years old, 40 years up and older.
  1. Costume Requirements
  • Costumes must be self-inflating using a battery-powered fan.
  • No sharp objects, hard materials, or accessories that could injure others.
  • Costumes must be family-friendly and appropriate for all audiences.
  1. Race Format
  • The race distance will be determined by the City of Hurricane. Anticipated distance is 100-yard dash.
  • Participants must start behind the designated start line.
  • Running, jogging or fast walking is permitted; crawling or sliding is not allowed.
  • If a costume deflates during the race, the participant may continue but must not remove the costume.
  1. Safety Rules
  • No pushing, tripping or intentional contact with other racers.
  • Participants must follow all instructions from race officials.
  • If a participant falls, others must avoid contact and continue safely.
  1. Disqualification
  • Removing or deflating the costume intentionally during the race.
  • Interfering with another participant’s costume or progress.
  • Starting before the official signal.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct or failure to follow safety instructions.
  1. Timing and Winners
  • The first participant to cross the finish line with their fully inflated costume wins.
  • In case of a tie, judge’s decision will determine the winner.
  1. Equipment and Preparation
  • Participants must bring their own inflatable costume along with anything needed (batteries, etc.)
  • Costumes should be tested before the race to ensure proper inflation.
  1. Weather and Conditions
  • The race may be postponed or canceled in case of severe weather.
  1. Conduct and Sportsmanship
  • Remember this is all for fun. Respect all participants, volunteers and spectators.
  • Celebrate creativity and fun over competition.
  • Cheering and positive energy are encouraged throughout the event.
  1. Liability
  • The event organizers are not responsible for lost or damaged costumes or personal items.
  • Participation is at the individual’s own risk.
