PLEASE NOTE: The City of Hurricane Construction Services will be shutting down the intersection of Centralia Street and Virginia Avenue to all traffic beginning on Monday, April 27, 2026, for the removal and new construction of a box storm drain. The road will be shut down for a full 31 days for the installation and concrete curing. During this time, the intersection of Wallace Street and Virginia Avenue should be used for all traffic. As always, please do not remove barricades in a construction zone.

So just centrallia street ? Will Virginia ave be open to through traffic ?
First your closing Virginia Avenue, then it’s open? Very confusing.
If you are a resident of the City of Hurricane (living in City limits), you will see an option to vote “for” the City of Hurricane levy on your Primary Election ballot. This levy has been in place since 1947, so it’s not something new. We simply need to ask voters to renew it every five years. This is crucial to the City of Hurricane’s annual budget. It generates $800,000 annually and is used to support the city’s street and road repairs – including paving and concrete work. It also ensures that the City has vital funding for the Hurricane Police Department – which includes the three School Resource Officers whose presence in the schools is of utmost importance.
Please take a couple minutes to watch the video below for more details. We urge you to vote “for” the levy. Remember: it has been in place since 1947! Please keep in mind when going to the polls that losing this funding would be detrimental to our City’s budget and would mean major cuts to both our street repair budget as well as our police budget.

That's sad to use our kids to your benefits ... Those cops at the schools should automatically be paid to be watching over the schools rather the levy passes or not!!! And if the levy is to have good roads 😂 take a walk and I mean walk the back streets the holes that you can see right through, the drains that are not secured by Pet Oasis, or the gaps that people can literally get hurt because there's holes besides the drains. The sidewalks just from the Mayor's building to Dr Monday's office is on horrible shape. So if this Levy has been around for 80 years and it does pass Lord I hope someone else is in charge of the money. God Bless
Vote no and taxes will be reduced.....
so edwards continually states that hurricane is NOT responsible for rt.34 through the valley but strange how I see the hurricane street sweeper cleaning the street...so hurricane tax payers paying to maintain state roads...hummmm...the old bait and switch...the levy should not be paying for a resource officer...the county or state should...

Are there any plans to widen Teays Valley road in preparation for the new middle school or will it stay the same with added school traffic?
Centralia needs a repair pretty quick. The drain is breaking apart and it’s gonna bust someone’s tire.
Are there any plans in the works to fix the road at the light from Main Street to 34?
